The Faiz Festival 2025 A bustling festive atmosphere, brimming with lovers and practitioners of art, music, literature and more. Faiz’s ghazals filled the air, in the voices of legends like, Iqbal Bano, Noorjahan and Nayyara Noor. Many book stalls (I’m back with a pile of books!), a ‘Faiz Ghar’ that traces his life and couplets adorn the walls. Drum concert in the open air, parallel sessions on a gamut of subjects. Everyone was hall hopping, enthralled with session after session. I had two – a conversation with Faiz’s daughter, Moneeza Hashmi about my journey thus far and the other, on Manto, with Sarmad Khoosat, who made another Manto in Pakistan. Both took me back in time and reaffirmed my beliefs in what I have chosen to do. Listened to new and legendary voices that shared candidly. A festival to remember. Sharing this with the song from Manto and words of Faiz! Glad I could bring them together again! @faizfoundation @sarmadkhoosat @njlahori #manto

In Lahore I was also invited to speak to students and faculty of the National College of Art by historian, Dr. Yaqoob Khan Bangash of ThinkFest and Dean of Design, Dr. Iram Zia Raja. NCA is a magnificent iconic building with a throbbing vibe (sadly didn’t have time to take enough photos). Bee Gul, one of the prominent scriptwriters in Pakistan was in conversation with me about the female gaze and my journey through social work and cinema. The hall was packed with students waiting outside! They asked thoughtful questions and were an engaged audience. A young girl, who had come all the way from Sindh for the talk, to my surprise, knew all about the Bengali masters and their cinema! I chatted with several Deans and professors of colleges that took time out to attend the session. The VC, Dr. Jafri hosted a wonderful lunch thereafter. Free flowing meaningful conversation and delicious food. The combination always feels satisfying anywhere in the world! @nca_officials @bee_gul @iramzia.raja @thinkfestpakistan

Wim Wenders in India! Thanks to Shivendra Singh Dungarpur and his amazing Film Heritage Foundation that Wim Wenders is here in India with touring 5 cities with his 18 films and his inspiring talks and Q and As. When I went to the filmmakers’ round table, I didn’t know it would move me so deeply. I’ve been to many festivals as an actor, director and juror, and have had the opportunity to meet various film personalities over the years. But Wim Wenders is unique in his humanity, his depth and his generosity in sharing his wisdom and experiences. His wide ranging films reflect his interest in and hope for humanity and his innate creative eye and ear for visuals and sound. Only someone who is so comfortable in his skin and has deep convictions about what he wants to say and how, can have such an independent and original voice. Do watch his films and hear him in Kolkata, Delhi, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram. Check out @filmheritagefoundation for more info. It was heartening to see so many young people attend his screenings and talks in Mumbai. Not to be missed if you want to reset your life and not just your art. @wimwendersfoundation #wimwenders
Excited to be going to Lahore after 5 years. This time for the Faiz Literary Festival. Looking forward to sharing my journey and talking about the making of Manto. Art and artists can heal and build bridges even when there are deep wounds and opaque walls. @faizfoundation #FaizFestival2025 #Manto
