Being outside, being present, being creative, being bored. Growing up all I cared about was animals. I would give anything to be loaded up into the car and driven the hours long round trip to my Grandmother’s barn just to see her horses for 5 minutes if I could. To smell that new grass on the hillside from last week’s rain, to catch a barn kitty for even a moment’s snuggle. To collect duck eggs from her muddy coop. Being outdoors shaped me, and as I look at life now compared to then, I start to worry that we have somehow forgotten the importance of doing nothing. Of playing outside in the mud. Of being bored. Yesterday, in an interview, I was asking how I feel about this new direction we are heading, and I went down a rabbit hole of memories thinking about how different my childhood, most of our childhoods looked when we place them side by side with where we are now. It got me thinking, are we in the chapter of the return? Did we spend a few decades figuring out how much technology doesn’t serve us, only to remember how much we love picking a fresh apple, or playing in the mud? Have we gone too far, only to turn back around? Los Angeles is HOME. Home to our Founder and the beloved members of our team. Home to our little brand. Home to countless clients who we cherish. Home to the many dreams we have cultivated. To Bayou, Los Angeles is golden. She holds every kind of human with every kind of skill, passion and perspective. And beyond all else, she holds community. We are deeply saddened by the life changing fires that have left so many without homes, without schools, without their family member, or their pets, and without businesses. We are still processing the devastation and know that the winds are still not in our favor. But even in the midst of such chaos and grief, Los Angeles has shown up for each other in the way that she does, with all her strength and compassion and LOVE. As the days unfold, and the pieces of life’s puzzle are slowly put back together, we know that love is the only way. What a way to start 2025. In the midst of such chaos and crisis, I’m holding on to every twinkle in the dark. Every glimmer of hope. Lives are being totally rebuilt from fires. Lives are being torn apart from politics. Chapters are being written as the pages are being turned. New beginnings that no one anticipated, that leave many with unanswered questions and the never ending buzz of anxiety not knowing what tomorrow will look like. If you live here, your heart is broken even if your home is standing, and your soul is aching even if your life is not crumbling from the fear of deportation. As I watch so many that I love try and navigate these unprecedented times, I’m realizing all we really have in this life is our ability to show up for people, without fail, in their hardest moments.
