The car ride to every Kathak performance of mine is always riddled with emotions. The rhythmic ‘bols’ echo in my mind as I mentally rehearse each piece, my fingers subtly tapping out the beats on my lap. A part of me feels the thrill of stepping into the spotlight, where the ghungroos will tell my story. Yet, there’s a tinge of anxiousness too—wondering who the audience will be tonight, what energy will they bring, and will they feel the essence of, my every spin, my every bhaav (expression) It’s a great mix of joy, anticipation, and excitement — and also a reminder that every stage performance is actually just a dialogue between the artist, those watching & the Divine 😇
