Sarah Carter Instagram – David Lynch is a hero, inspiration, and Saint in our home. His passing feels too soon. Another huge loss for Hollywood dreamers. His is a legacy and life to remember as we wake up in these ashes. His mission was to help us travel inward first to find the beauty… catch the big fish… and bring it to the table… new ideas… new visions… everyday… no matter what… do the work… live the dream.
I’m so grateful Alice has been exposed to his genius not only as filmmaker but as a spirit. She listened to his KCRW weather reports regularly, his great taste in music, she has learned and practiced transcendental meditation with me, she has watched his documentary The Art Life, mesmerized, and she has heard his name dropped as a cinematic reference at least once in any share of a vision for a new film in our family.
My husband @kevinxbarth framed his portrait and hung it on our bathroom wall last year as a daily reminder to be awesome.
One of the highlights of my career was hearing that my screenplay had been sent to him. He is the one who gave me permission to “go there”. The weirdest most beautiful, specific, and simply true expression of an impulse… I am more galvanized than ever to make my next film… that one… it’s a huge fish… He will remain one of my greatest influences as an artist and spiritual being… art heals. It really is the devotional practice of doing… diving deep and doing the thing from that place of joy… absurdity… the light in the dark.
May we all find inner peace, bliss, and inspiration in the depths of our subconscious as we continue to usher our dreams into reality… through this challenge… in his honor… this was what he hoped to leave us with… a way to find our bliss and share it… play it out… no matter how bizarre… how wonderful… how dark… find lightness. It’s there in the depth of quietness.
Who we are and what we do makes a huge difference. Finding and creating joy… he touched and changed so many lives… being himself.
My heart goes out to his inner circle and his family. What a huge loss. What a bright star. May he shine even brighter for us…
