The Cholistan Canal project threatens to deepen Sindh’s water crisis, depriving millions of people, farmers, and communities of their rightful share of the Indus River. The Greece boat tragedy exposed this grim reality, with FIA officers found facilitating illegal migration. In response, the government dismissed 35 officials and barred 65 from immigration duties. But is this enough? These are more than just numbers — they represent lives lost due to systemic corruption. The government must go beyond dismissals and take meaningful, lasting action. In Pakistan’s 2022 floods, nearly 650,000 pregnant women faced childbirth in dangerous conditions. Extreme heat is also deadly for infants, with even a 1°C rise increasing infant mortality rates. Meanwhile, climate disasters are disrupting education for millions of children, jeopardizing their futures. If we don’t act, the next generation will grow up in a world of worsening heatwaves, food shortages, and instability. The solution? Empower women, invest in education, and ensure healthcare access—because protecting them means protecting our collective future.
