We are often told by our elders to stay at home and rest, to not exercise, eat for two, load up on sugars for strength, or just completely cut out carbs if one is diagnosed with gestational diabetes during pregnancy. Truth be told, all of the above are myths, there is no such thing as eating for two while the notion may state and it is evident that your childs nutrition depends on you, however you do not need to double the amount of food you eat, you should eat as your heart desires and just like any other day and stop eating when you feel full. Another notion and the biggest misconception is that pregnant women should NOT exercise! However, Doctors only encourage women to workout regularly or as they deem fit during pregnancy to avoid complications, promotes a healthy pregnancy and helps with a relatively easier labour process.

Women are real life super Heroes! You are growing a human, you are strong and resilient. That’s how Allah has created a woman! I am truly inspired by all the mothers out there who are juggling family, children, career and household tasks! You deserve the world 🫶🥰

Mariam Ansari Instagram - Workout with me at 23 weeks 🤰✨

Most of my program did not change after I found out that I was pregnant, Gradually I decreased the volume and intensity of the weights I was lifting. However the workout remained the same every week and I would just make incremental changes according to how I felt on the specific day!

Always listen to your body. If it tells you to rest, just rest it out. I aimed for Atleast thrice a week because most days I would be so tired of growing a human!

Here’s a little workout to help all my mommas know what to do when they are at the gym!

2-3 sets for 10-12 reps ( go with how you’re feeling, don’t push yourself too much)

Mariam Ansari Instagram - I read a quote that you are replaceable in every role except being a mother and I felt that! Maybe we shouldn’t be so hard on mothers that means vour own as well! I remember when my friends had kids before I became a mom, I never really asked them how they were or just called them to check up on them. Usually just complained that she’s changed or become so MIA rather than realizing that she’s busy mothering and dealing with her own battles postpartum. Lets be real, nobody by choice wants to completely shut themselves off and I only realized this when I had a little one of my own! To all my girls who I forgot to check up on during that time I truly owe you an apology and a huge shout out to how wonderfully they all have transitioned from amazing friends to even more amazing mothers! Lets help mothers rather than criticize them for every single choice they make for their little ones! We are the generation that will be changing the mindset & healing generational traumas for our next so let’s make it easier for them by being kind to ourselves and the ones around us 🤍
