Amrita Raichand Instagram – This Ven Pongal recipe is the family favourite of one my really close Tamilian Friends. It’s super simple and super comforting. Festival or not, this is one dish you definitely need to try! ❤️😋😋

Recipe:
Ingredients
Rice – 1 cup
Moong Dal – 50 gm
Salt to taste
ghee – 1 tbsp
Water 5 cups
Milk – 1/3 cup

For Tempering
Jeera – 1tsp
Ginger – 1”
Black peppercorns(whole) – 8-10
Salt to taste
Cashews( halved)- 6-7
Curry leaves – 8-10
Hing – 1/2 tsp

Method
Add ghee to a pressure cooker and roast the dal in it. Then add the rice, salt, milk & water, mix and give it 4 whistles. Once done, allow it to cool.
Meanwhile, crush in mortar and pestle the jeera, ginger, salt and black pepper.
Then add ghee to a tempering pan, followed by the prepared mixture and sauté till fragrant.
Add cashews, a pinch of hing and 8-10 curry leaves.
Pour on the prepared khichdi & mix well.
Serve immediately with chutney and Sambar & papadum on the side.
