I knew that if I ever went to space, I wanted to use the mission to uplift my home state in ways big and small.
🧑🧑🧒🧒I chose to raise money for Foster Care because children in West Virginia go into the foster care system at 4 times the rate of any other state. It’s a crisis and these children and families need our support. Between 100 cameos and the flash drive – we raised ~$40,000 for them.
💃🏻I needed a dress for New York Fashion Week and found the perfect design with @jmasters7. A farm to fashion piece made with dandelion seeds and silk. A nod to the connection WV has to our land and a call for a more sustainable way to use it.
💍I selected pearls from a local WV jeweler – @silverpenniesjewelry to bring to space and then gift to the women in my life. I see pearls as the result of a disruptor of a system. Something that is seen as an outsider but ultimately creates something beautiful in the process. I think of the women in my life – who are often the only women in the rooms that they occupy – in this way. @silverpenniesjewelry will offer replicas for anyone interested.
🎥We’ve covered my journey to space for my TV show Xploration Outer Space – and @marshallu is a big part of that. I’m so excited to bring this incredible university to 100million households.
🧪I worked with @astro_luci – a fellow West Virginian to further her research done with the Space Force by bringing up @fastplants experiments.
We did this and so much more and I’m grateful to you all for helping me accomplish my mission objectives. 🥹
