Googoosh Instagram – In 1999, during my final interrogation at the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic, I was ordered to write the story of my life. It was the first time such a demand had been made of me, but I refused—I had no intention of handing over my memoir to the agents of the regime. Writing had never been my refuge, especially when it meant revisiting memories that brought more pain than solace.
Over the years, friends, writers, and acquaintances in literary circles urged me to write a book. But between constant performances, the demands of my career, and the distances that separated us, the idea remained just that—an idea.
Eventually, however, I came to see it as a duty. My story, our story, needed to be told—not just for myself, but for those who might find meaning in it, for future generations who deserved to know what had been. And so, in late 2015, with the unwavering support of my dear friend from youth, Parto Dehlavi, and her inquisitive and beloved daughter, Tara Dehlavi, we finally began writing the book.
Today, I am thrilled to announce that my memoir will soon be published by Simon & Schuster. The Persian translation, brilliantly translated by the esteemed Mrs. Homa Sarshar, will be self-published simultaneously, with the release date to be announced soon. For the first time, I will finally share my story in full—my long-held aspirations, my social and political convictions, and, above all, my artistic soul.
