If there’s one person I can always count on, it’s you, @BarackObama. You’re my rock. Always have been. Always will be. Happy Valentine’s Day, honey! ❤️
Throughout Black History Month, I’ll be sharing stories of folks who are transforming our culture with their talents and helping us think about the world in new and innovative ways. I’m excited to start with artist @ASherald. Now, I first met Amy back when I was First Lady. Barack and I interviewed her to work on our portraits for the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in DC. The second she started talking about her craft, we had an instant connection, and I knew she was the one to work on my portrait. Amy’s an incredible talent with extraordinary character and strength, and her paintings often speak for themselves. With her signature style, it’s easy to distinguish her work in many of the galleries that you see today. Her path wasn’t easy – she made tremendous sacrifices, but stayed faithful to her gifts, refusing to give up on what she had to offer to the world. That’s why she is one of the best artists of her generation. So if you haven’t had a chance to see her work, I highly recommend that you do. #BlackHistoryMonth 🎨

There’s a lot going on in the world right now. We’re living through some really complicated and confusing times and on top of that, folks are trying to juggle family life, work dynamics, relationships, aging parents, and more. That’s why my brother @CraigMalRob and I are launching our new podcast — @IMOPodcasts with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson. Now, Craig is one of the people I turn to whenever I have anything on my mind. He always has the insights, the wisdom, and the humor to get me through anything. Together, we’ll share our perspectives about some of your questions. And we won’t be doing it alone. We’ll be joined by special guests, friends, and experts along the way. I’m going to be honest. We don’t have all the answers. But there will be a lot of opinions. A lot of learning. And plenty of laughs. Because we all need some moments of light right now. And we want to hear from you, too! Tell us what you’re grappling with at imopod.com and in the comments below, and we might discuss it during a future episode.

Taking care of aging parents is never easy — and it’s something that a lot of people don’t like to talk about. Caretakers shoulder immense pressures — especially when they are navigating raising children of their own, too. That’s what @CraigMalRob and I talked about with @SethRogen and @LaurenMillerRogen on this week’s episode of the podcast. Head over to YouTube at the link in my bio to watch the full conversation or listen now wherever you get your podcasts.
Fifteen years ago when I was First Lady, Partnership for a Healthier America was founded to improve the health of children in our country alongside my Let’s Move! initiative. We wanted to create a movement that made healthy eating and physical activity the norm — making sure fruits and vegetables were accessible while showing our kids examples of ways they could stay active. I’ll always be proud of the work we were able to accomplish. We improved the federal school nutrition standards, garnered meaningful commitments from food companies and restaurant chains to lower calories, salt, sugar, and trans fat in their products, modernized the Nutrition Facts label to help give families the information they needed, and empowered parents and caregivers with tools to support themselves and their families. Today, Partnership for a Healthier America’s mission has evolved to advancing access to good food for everyone in America. In the past few years, we’ve distributed over 1 million meals to families in need through our Pass the Love campaign with Waffles Mochi. But there is still a lot more work to do—because, frankly, our kids deserve better. If you’re interested in learning how you can get involved, follow @PHAnews for more information.

I just love this song and video by @Ledisi – it’s a powerful embodiment of the beauty of all Black women.
Growing up, @CraigMalRob and I lived with our great-uncle Terry. We didn’t realize it at the time, but he had Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s affects about 1 in 9 people age 65 and older, and the conversation surrounding it has come a long way since we were kids. In this week’s episode of @imopodcasts, we talk to @SethRogen and @LaurenMillerRogen about Alzheimer’s and the many ways it has impacted families around the world — including theirs. This episode is now available to watch on YouTube at the link in my bio, or listen wherever you get your podcasts.
In this moment of uncertainty, supporting girls’ education and empowerment is one of the most important things we can do to build a better future for us all. And right now, our girls need us more than ever. If you’re wondering how you can lift up girls in need, I hope you’ll consider donating to the @GirlsOpportunityAlliance Fund, which works directly with grassroots organizations around the world. These organizations are not only working to make sure girls finish their education, but are also working hard to empower them to be their best selves. Learn more about the fund at the link in my bio. Because when girls get the opportunities they deserve, poverty goes down, economies grow, and babies are healthier. The world, by all accounts, gets better. And yet, across the globe, more than 100 million girls are not in school. These are eager, talented, and capable young women who simply haven’t been given the shot they deserve — and we must do everything we can to give it to them.

@MovingtheGoalpost helps girls in Kenya build strength and confidence both on and off the soccer field. ⚽️ This incredible organization uses sports to help girls develop their leadership skills while also empowering them through education. With the help of the @GirlsOpportunityAlliance, Moving the Goalposts helps provide 700 girls scholarships and mentorship as well as access to literacy programs, a mobile library, and digital literacy courses. This #WomensHistoryMonth, I hope you’ll learn more about their work by checking out the link in my bio.
Art has the power to shift perspectives and transform our communities. That’s why the @GirlsOpportunityAlliance is proud to support @PraizeProductions—an organization in Chicago working to help nurture girls’ talent, self-expression, and confidence. Last year, the Girls Opportunity Alliance proudly supported their annual showcase, which featured 40 remarkable girls as they performed spoken word, poetry, dance, and more—all while being mentored by professional Black artists and dancers along the way. I was so proud of these girls and the work Praize Productions is doing to provide a space for them to express themselves. As we celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth, I hope you’ll support organizations like this at the link in my bio.
