Here I am again. How can the Lahore diary not have an evening in a Lahori home! Warmth and laughter, conversations about art and cinema, singing old Hindi film songs and finger licking khana. When I think of that evening what stood out for me was sitting on the beautiful carpet, at my dear friend Nadia’s Amma’s feet! Seldom one feels equally close to a mother and daughter! Thank you Nuscie khala for opening your house and heart to me and calling everyone who you both wanted me to meet. What a lovely evening that was…spontaneous and full of pyaar and khushi. I was too busy having fun to take photos of all of it. But here is what I have. Thank you, till we meet again. 🤗 @njlahori @nusciejamil @@haissam_hussain @barikhanfaseeh @kashifnisar26frames @samiyamumtazactor @rafay.alam @munizae @kausarmunir

In Lahore I was also invited to speak to students and faculty of the National College of Art by historian, Dr. Yaqoob Khan Bangash of ThinkFest and Dean of Design, Dr. Iram Zia Raja. NCA is a magnificent iconic building with a throbbing vibe (sadly didn’t have time to take enough photos). Bee Gul, one of the prominent scriptwriters in Pakistan was in conversation with me about the female gaze and my journey through social work and cinema. The hall was packed with students waiting outside! They asked thoughtful questions and were an engaged audience. A young girl, who had come all the way from Sindh for the talk, to my surprise, knew all about the Bengali masters and their cinema! I chatted with several Deans and professors of colleges that took time out to attend the session. The VC, Dr. Jafri hosted a wonderful lunch thereafter. Free flowing meaningful conversation and delicious food. The combination always feels satisfying anywhere in the world! @nca_officials @bee_gul @iramzia.raja @thinkfestpakistan

Stunning show of textiles from Bengal curated by Darshan and team of Weavers Studio at the beautiful Kolkata Centre for Creativity. Why had I never been to this state or the art space?! Darshan has a huge contribution in preserving and sustaining hand crafted weaves. My go to place for clothes in Kolkata! In Kolkata, check out both places! @weaversstudiokolkata @kccinkolkata

Thanks to the French Film Festival, I was able to screen Manto after almost 7 years in Kolkata, a city I love to share my work with. Most in the audience had watched the film before, some even 2-3 times! The post screening questions were thoughtful and the feedback was overwhelming. Making Manto was a long and special journey, so I always enjoy talking about it. And then there was the closing night ceremony. I was particularly delighted to meet David Foenkinos, the French author-filmmaker and the Bhutanese director, Dechen Roder. We had a nice long Bangali lunch hosted by the very gracious Nicolas Facino, the director of the Alliance Francaise, Kolkata. It was also lovely to meet the French Consul General of Kolkata, Didier Talpain and friends & colleagues that I seldom meet – Sudhir Mishra, Rituparna Sengupta, Huma Qureshi and Mukesh Chhabra. Some of you often talk about the saris I wear…my favourite attire! If in Kolkata, my go to place is Weavers Studio. My photos are often not the best at events, but still not in the habit of remembering to get myself clicked!
