Absolutely devastated to read reports about the Bibas family and their ongoing torment and uncertainty. I cannot fathom what their family has been through these past 18 months. I deleted my recent post after reading about the wishes of the Bibas family as stated above. It is impossibly cruel that they continue to have any form of agency taken from them. It’s wonderful to see four Israeli hostages reunited with their families. It’s devastating to learn that over 200 Palestinians were killed in the operation. Especially when we know that the hostages could have been released – along with hundreds of Palestinians held without charge in Israel – as part of a ceasefire proposal rejected by Netanyahu. The pictures coming out of Nuseirat are horrifying. I won’t share the images of the blood soaked boy with part of his brain hanging out of his skull – still alive – or the dead girl with her intestines exposed because I don’t want you to disengage in an understandable act of self-preservation. But I do want you to know they exist. When a ceasefire deal is on the table, how can anyone justify the killing of more innocent people while claiming to value all lives equally?
