For anyone struggling with chronic pain, any type of “invisible illness”, or endometriosis like me, one of the worst parts is feeling like your own body doesn’t belong to you- like your body is your enemy. Looking in the mirror and not recognizing yourself, or even hating what you see is something I wish on no one, but sadly it’s a reality for so many of us. @karaduvalrange through her movement medicine online classes (so much more than just Pilates) has taught me how to allow myself the space to feel my pain but also realize how deeply it runs beyond just physically – the impact of it being magnified by how much I subconsciously have to suppress my lived experience to not just show up as an actor with my body on display for the entire world , but even just as a human being in every day life. She’s taught me how to have a loving relationship with my body somehow despite it all , to worship it and to nurture it. It’s a daily effort on my end, but without her classes and the safe healing space she has created for anyone anywhere to join anytime through their phone or laptop, I honestly don’t know how I would have gotten through the last 5 years which have been the most painful confusing and difficult years of my life (despite being in my early 30s when I should have been feeling like I’m thriving in not just my body, but my career and personal life.) Anyone who suffers from chronic illness/pain knows the mindfuck of being gaslit by not just the entire medical system, friends and family but even ourselves. Because if we can’t see it, is it even real? Yes. Fuck yes it’s real. You are not alone. To any one this post resonates with for whatever reason, I bow down to you for going through whatever it is you’re going through and still showing up in the world however you do. You’re a fcking badass, and you’re perfect exactly as you are. Kara shared this quote in one of her recent classes (that felt more like a much needed therapy session) , which I will now share here for whoever needs to hear it as much as I did: “You must allow the pain to visit.
