When I touched down on Earth the first people I wanted to see were those who helped me liftoff to space – my boat refugee family and my space sisters, a group of astronaut women friends who paved the path for me to fly. I am the final one of our group to fly to space. For years, each of these women have supported both my civil rights activism for rape survivors and have served as a lifeline for my joy – space. Their friendship, mentorship, love and support are the reasons I broke the sound barrier. Best. Group. Hug. Ever.

I always said that my real mission began when I came back to Earth. I’m excited to head to Ignite by @National4H next week and share my story with 4-H’ers all around the country. 4-H has a goal to ensure that their students are beyond ready for their futures by equipping them with life skills they can take into any career. I’ll be sharing my story of spaceflight and how this West Virginia girl made it to the stars – along with all the life lessons I’ve learned along the way. #4HPartner #Igniteby4H
