What an amazing #internationalwomensday I was honored to be invited to Parliament Hill to participate in a meeting with the Prime Minister @justinpjtrudeau and the most amazing group of women who have made so many changes for women in Canada and around the world. This was so special, and also bittersweet as this was the Prime Minister’s last meeting as PM. I met some amazing women, such as Dr. Diane Francoeur from the SOGC. And was thrilled to see @melissagrelo who joined us virtually! There were so many women there who are making amazing things happen for women and they are not going to stop. And while there is a lot of badness and things are feeling dark, for the first time in a while I feel hopeful. And that is one of the powers of community!!!!! Happy IWD everyone. And because of this meeting, I have some ideas and I am really hoping to shake up some shit! I am inspired!!!!

Just shaking my head. A trade war. Gutting government programs. Gutting research. Threatening people who are exercising their right to protest? The list goes on. Americans, if you have not see Trudeau’s amazing press conference, you can find it on YouTube

Keep those elbows up. Trump is like an abusive spouse. He claims he will make nice…until the next time.
Just received official photos for the meeting with @justinpjtrudeau celebrating IWD and all the important work from some amazing women and organizations, like @actioncanadashr Listening to so many people dedicated to improving lives through science was empowering. And it is clear to me that the greatest threat we face is disinformation. Once again, thank you Prime Minister for your dedication to women’s rights and your leadership.

I wrote about an interesting new study published this week in the New England Journal of Medicine, about treating male partners to reduce the risk of recurrent bacterial vaginosis. There’s actually been a fair amount of research trying to solve the puzzle of bacterial vaginosis. We know that it is a dysbiosis, and beneficial lactic acid producing lactobacilli ate replaced with anaerobic bacteria. We also know that biofilms, which are communities of microorganisms that adhere to surfaces are also important. While we know that sexual activity is associated with bacterial vaginosis, we don’t have an understanding of how this happens in the same way that we understand how chlamydia or HIV are transmitted. Previous studies treating male partners with oral antibiotics have been disappointing. This study takes a new approach, looking at both oral and topical antibiotics for men. The results are impressive. When women took antibiotics for bacterial vaginosis and their male partners were not treated their risk of recurrence within 12 weeks was 63%, but when their male partners were treated, the risk of recurrence was 35%. I hope you head over to TheVajenda.com to read more about the study
Self help gurus and supplement shills at the White House. We are gonna see a steady stream of medical grifters jockeying for attention from the King and his court. All the more money to be made fleecing people. Awesome.

I said what I said. Be wary of hyperbole and straw person arguments as they are not scientific. If someone feels the guidelines are wrong, a logical fallacy isn’t the way to make a case for a different interpretation. People should be able to support their claim with science. If there is no science to support their claim, then their claim may be right or it may be wrong. Medicine is filled with many disproven hypotheses. I’ve been in medicine for 38 years, and seen many ideas and pilot studies go nowhere. Again, this gets back to what “they” aren’t putting in the guidelines. Be specific? Who? And what quality research has been ignored?
There was a quote in the “M Factor” that I could not fact check -> “Nearly 30% of women in menopause will lose a tooth within the first five years of menopause.” I reached out to the team and was disappointed in the response. When you quote a number, it needs to come from somewhere. Instead of giving me the line in a paper that supported this quote, they suggested I was simply interpreting the literature in a different way. They sent be the Buffalo Osteo Perio Study as proof, except this study enrolled women with an average age of 66 years and says nothing about the first five years of menopause. It says that over an average of 5 years in menopause about 28% of women will lose a tooth. This is not the same as the first five years of menopause. While this response was disappointing, given the fact that the documentary contained a lot of misinformation, and so was clearly not fact checked, I wasn’t surprised. Remember, this documentary was heralded as being good enough to be worthy of continuing medical education credits, so asking for the reference is not unreasonable! I also asked for the reference to back up Dr. Haver’s claim that MHT prevents “neurons dementia,” but was told Dr. Haver could address my concerns directly. Sigh. Head to TheVajenda.con if you want to follow me down a dental rabbit hole, which is way more fun than it sounds! It turns out there are complex ways reproductive health and dental health intersect, and my interest has been so piqued I am working on it for a larger project.
