Tiny Harris Instagram – Xscape • Off The Hook • 1995
Let me just start by saying can y’all believe this year its been 30 years since Xscape dropped Off The Hook?
Essentially one of the best R&B albums of the 90s and my favorite album from Xscape, Off The Hook showed the girls maturing from their debut album and becoming women.
It also showed Xscape’s transformation into style icons, i mean the suits, the suits were SO Cold, Kandi’s short haircut stayed up in a Black Hair Magazine, Tiny’s hair color was so dope all the girls went out to dye their hair that color… the suits and the shades on the cover… the image to go along with the music was everything!
I always say Do You Want To is one of my favorite songs of all time, but aside from the singles, Off The Hook had some as amazing records, Hard To Say Goodbye, Do Like Lovers Do, Work Me Slow, What Can I Do? Xscape came for blood with that album!
I’ve always admired about Xscape the way the four of these girls were able to sing lead, there aren’t too many groups where all the girls are lead singers, and this album showed and proved that!
Off The Hook is also one of those 90s albums that aged extremely well, when you listen to it today it doesn’t sound dated! Truly a work of art, Xscape may have only had three albums, but that damn Off The Hook, listen, if you know you know that album is one of them ones!
This album is truly where the all of the ladies came into their own, they became women, and it set the stage for not only their next album but their solo endeavors, as it was with this album that the girls began writing.
That last clip, don’t you miss when you’d always get a good Gospel Song/Performance from the R&B girls back in the day?
