Plus, there’s a large amount of refined sugars in the mixtures – which I’m not a fan of. Refined sugars in our daily food intake spike blood sugar, increase insulin resistance, increase brain fog, leads to fatigue from higher blood sugar levels, and so much more. A little here and there isn’t the end but consistently bombarding ourselves with it is the opposite of “healthy.” – What we’re finding is that a lot of companies are labeling their products as a “protein” product or calling your attention to the amount of protein in the product. Many dieticians lean towards what is called the 10x rule for protein. – If you take the total amount of protein in a food and multiply it by 10, it should then be equal to or greater than the total calories in that food. This would qualify that food (or protein bar) as a high protein food. – With the Tru Bars though, there wasn’t a lot of protein, a pretty large amount of added sugar, and sunflower oil. Seed oils are high in linoleum acid (Omega-6) and higher amounts throws off our omega 3 : omega 6 ratio. The linoleum acid also breaks down to arachidonic acid which triggers our endocannabinoid receptors – triggering hunger cravings. – The RX bars however, were all natural with no added sugars. They could definitely use more protein BUT they aren’t marketed as a protein bar. Why? Because, like Stanford showed in 2018, it doesn’t matter WHAT you eat, if you’re in a deficit, you’ll lose pounds. BUT – WHAT you eat within that deficit determines if you lose body fat or muscle, if you’re starving all the time or if you’re full and satiated, your energy levels, AND the quality of your overall health. – This is perhaps the most important measurement when it comes to tracking your physique progress. It doesn’t matter what you eat. – BUT we know that WHAT you eat within that calorie deficit determines if you lose body fat or precious muscle. Keep in mind, frozen foods are items I wouldn’t personally keep in hand in my freezer, nor would I make them a usual part of my nutrition. As a one-off, if you’re traveling or in a pinch, that’s when I would use these. – But remember, I never judge ☺️ – The sodium content in the Atkins frozen dinner was through the roof.
