Cult feminist musician and artist, Peaches exploded onto the music scene in 2000 with her punky, electroclash album The Teaches of Peaches and its standout hit ‘Fuck the Pain Away’.
She’s been pushing the boundaries ever since, making genderqueer work that is sex and body positive and has led the way for successive generations of artists to diddle their skittles (hi Beyonce).
In this episode Jake speaks to Peaches about the making of ‘Fuck The Pain Away’, her creative process, it’s initial reception and what being a queer artist means to her.

24 years ago, radical musician, performer and multidisciplinary artist @peachesnisker unleashed her groundbreaking album The Teaches of Peaches, 11 tracks of smutty, crunchy, punky electroclash that hit us in the face with the 2000 version of free the nipple.
Peaches uses her voice, her Roland MC-505 and her searing stage presence to shred apart stereotypes about women, gender, sex, sexuality and more. Her music, and her live show, is invigorating, liberating and electrifying, creating a space for her fans to be who they want to be without judgement.
We spoke to Peaches for International Women’s Day 2024.

Oh Marianne, with the album Broken English I was yours faithfully! You showed us all who you really were. Raw, real, and unapologetic! The boldness was a revelation. “Why D’Ya Do It” in particular shocked me. I felt powerful singing along with all its shade and direct anger. It was an Inspiration. I was 13 years old.
When I was asked to join this tribute album for Marianne, of course I wanted to recreate that track. I looked on the list of who had picked which song and of course my girl Shirley Manson had picked the same track. This was a moment for us to share, unite, and pay respect to Marianne together.
Track done with Greg Kurstin, the most selfless, creative, talented musician and friend!
Our message for this recreation –
Live your bad dirty ugly gorgeous truth!
