My father loved to dance. I remember when I was little, I would stand on his toes and let him lead me around the room at one of the many parties he and my mother would throw. He loved to sing, too — even though his parents wouldn’t let him learn singing as a boy because it was something only meant for girls in their minds. It didn’t stop him — he would sing to my mother, call my sister and me for our birthdays and sing Stevie Wonder’s “I just called to say I love you.” We’d roll our eyes and beg him to stop, but we loved it. Today, he is 92 and sometimes doesn’t know our names as he struggles with dementia. But when we play that song, he lights up and starts singing. He gave us a lifetime of memories — not all good, not all perfect, some really hard. But also so much love, sacrifice, and belief that his daughters could do anything. Thank you, Papa. Just calling to say I love you! To all the fathers out there who have fathered in big and small ways—thank you. It’s a day to thank you for a lifetime of love. ❤️
The American people have lost trust in our country’s brazenly corrupt, right-wing Supreme Court. Congress must take action to strengthen judicial ethics laws and impose an enforceable code of conduct to hold our highest court to the highest standard.
This #WearOrange weekend, we must all recommit ourselves to ending the horrific gun violence in America. On average, more than 325 Americans are shot EVERY DAY. No other country has this problem. We must do better to create a safer country for our children.
When Democrats try to out-Republican the Republicans by pushing inhumane, enforcement-only immigration policies, it simply doesn’t work. We need a workable immigration system that expands legal pathways, keeps families together, and lets people come and contribute to our country.
In November, I led 87 of my colleagues in calling for the protection of undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens. I am glad to see the administration seriously considering this policy. Nearly 1.1 million U.S. citizens are married to an undocumented person, and approximately 4.9 million children who are U.S. citizens have at least one undocumented parent. These families live in a constant state of fear and uncertainty. Let’s get this done.
The American people deserve better than a corrupt, right-wing Supreme Court that is devoid of an enforceable code of conduct. Scandal after scandal is destroying the legitimacy and public trust of our highest Court. We need serious, enforceable Supreme Court ethics reform NOW.

Democrats need our own vision of an inclusive, working immigration system that centers humanity and justice. We cannot out-Republican Republicans on this issue. That simply won’t work.
The Biden administration’s Justice Department has championed antitrust efforts, pushing back against big corporations and for working Americans. From lowering grocery prices to taking on Ticketmaster, they’re standing up for you.
During Pride Month, we must push for actions that will deliver full rights and equality to EVERYONE, no matter their gender expression or who they love. That’s why it’s so important that Congress pass the Equality Act to provide protections for LGBTQIA people across America.
Great to host a roundtable with Seattle’s LGBTQ Center (@gaycity), where we gathered with local LGBTQIA leaders and organizations in celebration of Pride Month! I’m so grateful for Seattle’s vibrant LGBTQIA community, and I’ll always stand up for your right to live authentically. 🏳️🌈
As Ranking Member of the Immigration Subcommittee & someone who has organized for immigrants’ rights for decades, I know enforcement-only policies don’t work. What works is providing parole in place for spouses of citizens, ensuring TPS designations, & expanding legal pathways.
Recent scandals involving Justices Alito and Thomas have only made this more clear: the Supreme Court is losing its legitimacy and the American people’s trust. Public outcry and calls for accountability haven’t worked. Congress must take serious action to rein in this court.
Today we celebrate 12 years of DACA, a program that has helped over half a million people who came to this country as children stay here legally. However, the fate of DACA is uncertain as courts steer immigration policy. Congress must act & pass legislation to protect Dreamers.
For far too long, domestic workers have been denied the basic protections afforded to other workers on the job. It’s time to change that. Today, I’m proud to introduce my Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act with @senkirstengillibrand, @senatorlujan, and @domesticworkers.
America needs a modernized immigration system that expands legal pathways and preserves the ability for people fleeing terrible situations to seek asylum. Republicans have continuously blocked these measures. I’ll keep fighting for a working, humane immigration system.
Yesterday’s actions on the border severely limit the right to seek asylum — rights that are protected by both domestic law and international treaty law. We all want order at the border and a functioning immigration system, but enforcement-only methods will not achieve that goal.
People come to the United States seeking asylum because they are fleeing war, violence, and persecution. We have obligations, bound both by domestic law and international treaties, to allow those individuals to seek asylum. We cannot severely limit this process.
I’m so excited about our @USProgressives Proposition Agenda — a day one plan of action for 2025 to raise wages, lower costs, and empower workers across America. It’s time for a slate of policies that delivers for working families. Let’s get this done.
Domestic Workers do the jobs that make all other work possible — but too often, they’re treated as expendable. It’s time they have the rights they deserve. Alongside some amazing advocates from @domesticworkers, I’m so proud to be reintroducing my Domestic Workers Bill of Rights.
I was proud to stand with many colleagues, activists, and organizers yesterday to call on the administration to protect asylum and work toward humane immigration solutions. Enforcement-only policies simply don’t work. We can and must do better to push toward real progress.
Great to join Patrick Gaspard, @SenBooker, Tom Perriello, and Haitham Elnour this week to discuss the ongoing war in Sudan and how we can work to engage the international community, lift up the Sudanese people, deliver humanitarian aid, and restore peace and security.
Immigrants are good for our country, our communities, and our economy. We must pass comprehensive, humane immigration reform to modernize the system and allow people who come to this country the ability to work here.
