I dare you to ask me how my day was. “We are volcanoes. When we women offer our experience as our truth, as human truth, all the maps change. There are new mountains.” —Ursula K. LeGuin
Blown away by @odxssarae! It’s one thing to watch your friend risk their life for their work from afar, to be rewarded for their courage and artistry at the highest level, and to continue on their mission in spite of lost friends and serious dangers… It’s one thing to be proud of my fellow Canadian from my home in Los Angeles having started our careers at the same time and place… GO GO GO YES!… SHE’S DOING IT!!?!! But to see it up close and personal… to see she hasn’t changed a bit… that she’s still the same gorgeous-angel-brilliant-spitfire-sorceress she was at 20… to witness her ask for the funds she needs from the lovely man across the table who’s heart was as vast as his resources… to see her light him up with purpose and hope to keep her crew in Gaza safe… to see her text chain with her subject on the frontlines… and hear her stories about being followed by officials everywhere she goes… to see her smiling and talking about her love life in the same breath… is to be massively humbled and inspired. Odessa, sitting next to you for an hour at Cannes was life affirming in all the ways. To all (women especially) DO NOT LET FEAR STOP YOU from following your instincts straight into the heart of humanity. May we all allow ourselves to fall over the edge of our comfort zones and trust ourselves to land on our feet face to face with a new frontier alongside equally brave and bright spirits. May we all do everything humanly possible to live a purposeful life, to amplify the voices and stories of those who most deserve to be heard… from right where we are… just as we are… we can bring light to darkness… and never doubt our capacity to change the world. WE ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN WE KNOW. Happy Birthday love. The world is a far better place with you in it. 💓 @festivaldecannes 2024

The night I unintentionally dressed as Alice In Wonderland and fell into the rabbit hole after @joelmichaely4real 🕳️🐇 Nothing was planned, very little was recorded, but suffice to say walking the red carpet to my national anthem at Paul Schrader’s ‘Oh, Canada’ premiere made it abundantly clear I was right where I was meant to be. From there, magical encounters took place I’m still processing and may or may not share… this night though… this was the night that set the tone. The film was a poem and a confession of lies at the end of a celebrated man’s life… so much of being an artist feels like a lie… but it’s not… to live beyond social expectations is actually profoundly brave and true. To see this life for what it is and make it as beautiful as you can possibly imagine. We want concrete reports and accounts of events, but that isn’t what interests me. Courage interests me. Going for it. I look for the spark, the glow, the warmth, the knowing glances, the moments when we are carried by flings and fleeting soul-stirring conversations, by opened doors, and ideas not fully formed… by crowds of wanderers following their hearts… dancing… and then that deep breath… right now this is it… this is it… I made it here and it is all so perfect… so much more than I expected… right here like this… the sea and sun and gulls and grand hotels and strange genius… pure chaos and absolute magic… and then home… to return home to heart… reconnected… then to dream again… to return to the legacy, the mastery, the creation, the family after flying free… having touched fellow travelers and far reachers who also return to someplace deep and sure… it’s amazing to dress up and be photographed… but the best part is removing the uncomfortable shoes at the end of the night… barefoot… and to make meaning of it all… that which seems so meaningless… ridiculous in many ways… but that’s how we play… how we see each other in the best light… before the impending retrospective dot connecting, map-making of the next chapter of who is who for what how? This was my first night @festivaldecannes It will never feel like this again… total awe… One of those nights that changes all the ways.

Hellooooo @festivaldecannes 🎞️
This is us. To be a mother is to know life, to know that it is a miracle, to know how hard and painful it can be, how exquisitely beautiful, that life is what you make of it, and also that you have absolutely no control. To be a mother is to know your magic and also to know what’s real. To be a mother is to be humbled and to be grateful, to be forgiving and constantly giving… giving as much as you possibly can and feeling like that is never enough. To be a mother is the greatest gift I have received in this life… but of course there is the gift of life itself. To be a daughter is to understand your own mother more and more everyday and to hope she knows how much you love her. To be a mother is to love so much you know that same love in return can only come from the Great Mother of all mothers. ——— Mom, I hope you know how much I love you and that by being a mother each day I learn how much I didn’t know. Your journey has been nothing short of heroic. Sometimes I can hear Christopher’s voice saying to me “Mom is amazing.” He always had your back. You had his. You have had mine in unimaginably heartbreaking moments. You have had mine in every moment there has been to celebrate and also just in every moment… you are there for it… the gorgeous whole of it. This photo, this day, will always mark for me the day I knew what it was to be a family, our family, and that, no matter what, I couldn’t be more proud of us. So. Much. Love. Happy Mother’s Day ———- Whatever your family story is, one thing is shared, we all come from a mother who gave us life the best she could. Sending so much love to everyone on this day of big feelings around what it is to have a mother, be a mother, want to be a mother, not want to be a mother, miss a mother… My blessing for us all is to find the Mother Wisdom within and create our lives from a place of loving exactly who we are and who we came here to be. Make your mother proud. ♥️

Feeling between worlds… Tonight’s full moon in Scorpio brings us in touch with the underworld, the soul, and what needs to be released so we can be more radiant, pure of heart, and authentic in our self-expression. I always love the wisdom that comes through @mysticmamma: In certain Buddhist sects, the awareness of death and of our mortality is part of the daily spiritual practice because through facing death, we are awakened to the sacredness of LIFE… DEATH truly awakens us to LIFE… and it seems these current evolutionary energies are all working together to remind us of this… to remind us to allow what needs to be transformed to give way and be released, so that we can move with the river of life, the river of change, into a new experience… this purifying FULL MOON can bring much illumination through our intuitive and empathic channels, as we continue to receive insights around releasing our past and/or how our releasing has helped us bloom into a more empowered and authentic embodiment… SCORPIO is the sumbol of transformation. she represents the cycles of regeneration that naturally move all living things from birth to death to rebirth…she teaches us to transmute poison into medicine, to shed our skins and rise from the ashes again and again… she knows that no matter how dark the passage, she will come through on the other side… for consciousness doesn’t die, only changes form…. and her power comes from being anchored into that which is eternal in her… our true power comes from deeply knowing ourselves so it is quite symbolic that this FULL MOON activates the Buddha’s teachings of cultivating inner wisdom and compassion for Self and for all Beings… let’s stay “close to the Soul of the Earth and the secret roots of all things”. I look forward to our live tomorrow (Wednesday) 10am PST 🌑 photos @adampetrishin

Coachella photo dump #2 Shout out to Kevin who carried Alice on his shoulders more than I thought humanly possible and drove us 2 hours home at the end of the night to make sure we could all be back on time for work and school. #superdad Fav bands… @khruangbin @hermanosgutierrez Alice waited all day for “I’m Good” @beberexha and almost missed it… she heard it from way across the feild… I don’t think I’ve ever seen her run like that… when we made it, it was amazing to watch her wheels spin processing the woman behind the song she grew accustomed to on Kidz Bop with PG lyrics. Oh the joy the F-word can bring. Live everyone! Sometimes we forget to live! Live!
