Diplo Instagram - when I first became a DJ, there were very few women as my peers in this business... I remember one of my favorites DJ Baby Anne playing breakbeats and bass music in Florida tho.. its crazy to think 30 years later, I share the stage with more women than I do men at our @thehigherground events & festivals all over the world.. not only DJing, but producing some of the best records we have in dance music and singing on them. So i wanna just give a really huge shout out all the women I have been able to share the stage with and collaborative with or just seen as a fan and this is a little collection of some of my favorites. Happy International Women’s Day (also @ninakraviz is added)

Diplo Instagram - When I was 21 I moved to Tokyo, I learned japanese at temple diagaku & I was a waiter in Ebisu a few nights a week to pay my bills or I would buy bootleg bathing ape and send back to america and trade the money to buy records . I lived in a dorm so I only went to love hotel if some one else paid , it was usually married ladies I met at this resteraunt I worked at . it was pretty simple life. between jobs and school I played pick up basketball, joined a boxing club (thats where I got the black eye) and went to bars when I had extra cash .. but mostly I spent a lot of time just walking around tokyo alone for hours getting lost and then found .. finding the beauty in all the wabi sabi everywhere. I even saved up enough money working that I pressed my first demo I made on my computer onto dub plate vinyl .I took them back to america to play.. I was feeling wiser and weathered being s student of this city .. it’s been over twenty years and this city still surprises me every time with the same beauty and harmony in mundane walks down empty streets at sunset but can turn into a the heaviest of raves a few hours later . This time it was special because I got to show my dad and sons a lil bit of what I love about this crazy town . I can write so many stories in the comments if you want to know about my side quests Tokyo, Japan

Diplo Instagram - antarctica day 5.. no one told me salt water freezes at 27 degrees .. I’ve jumped into the ocean anyway. it was the coldest cold u could feel. Went up to the lounge and @rhye was singing . Last night I officiated my first wedding and sang their first song . . It was very beautiful . Will never forget : I also got ordained online during morning popp for 30 dollars so they are actually are married .. (they probably thought it was a joke) then oliver tree djed some dubstep metal kind of music at 4 am . the boat crew went mad.. next morning we climbed to the top of a mountain on the continent to see more whales . they spouted at us in joy. We also ate 2 million year old ice .. It was salty. did not love.. 🚫. later in the afternoon i did some acroyogs & we took selfies with icebergs from the ships bow. then me @flume and @hayes_bradley played a marathon dj set til sunrise (the sun never sets so there isn't really a sunrise. Woke up and saw some more penguins. This is paradise. love you and will report back tomorrow. Antarctica

Diplo Instagram - She was my first love, first woman in my life. Even as a grown man its a cosmic gut punch to lose your mother. When your grow up and u leave home . in a way it’s sad to think but u know mother is always there .. even as a man - you would never call on your mom for things but you know somewhere deep inside that she would protect you ..she give you your first feeling of security because she gave u a life . She carried you and protected you and gave up so much for you to be something. It’s sad to leave and find your way but my mom really loved my art. she didn’t even understand it all but she loved everything . She gave me all the confidence in the world & she supported me with all her energy. even when i broke and had nothing . she was on my myspace promoting me as Djmom1 ! 😌 Every time I come home she was there on her oxygen mask and chair wearing my 2XL merch. Some times it was so silly but she loved everything about me. she told me how handsome I was when ever she saw me. She was my number one everything and I could never do anything wrong in her eyes. I really did light up her life. . She loved my babies too she was so proud of the little men they are becoming . she got to spend time with them last month with me because of Amy. I’m so happy that happened . My sister died in July and I think she brought our family together more than we have ever been. My mom was suffering a lot in her soul but also her body was fighting a fight she wasnt going to win. Momma knew me and my dad & my sister Kelly are ok. she knows we are good we gave her that peace.. My dad held her hand at the last breath 🤍 they been married since high school. We are safe but she needed to be with my sister Amy somewhere better. I miss you Barbara Jean, you were the brightest light in my life, I just had a ten minute cry in the bathroom at CDG airport sorry to the Janitor. Florida
